51,000 lamps light up the Yamuna Ghats on Dev Diwali

Dev Diwali is celebrated on the full moon night in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar and Kartik Purnima also marks the day when Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had founded Vrindadham Dham. Hence, this Purnima, also known as Raas Purnima, is a very important day in Vrindavan and Mathura. Along with being Dev Diwali, the founding day of Vrindavan and the end of the chaturmas vrat, it is also believed that on this night Lord Krishna, Radha Rani and their gopis descend to Vrindavan from the heavens to perform Raas Lila.
